After introducing automated captions for IGTV uploads in 2020 and expanding captions to Stories last year, Instagram has taken the next step. Instagram Launches Auto-Generated Captions for Feed Videos

Users will soon be able to turn on auto-captions for any Instagram feed post, as seen here, adding another method to broaden your consumption options in the app.

Auto-captions have been one of the most desired features within the Instagram community. Now artists will be able to include automated captions in all sections of the app, including Reels (via the ‘Captions’ sticker), which is presently Instagram’s fastest-growing interaction surface.

It will also assist creators in increasing viewership in both sounds on and sound off contexts, which might be a substantial additional benefit.

It’s inconvenient to be on a bus, out in public, or even watching TV next to your partner on the couch and not be able to hear the whole context of a clip because you can’t turn on the volume without risking the fury of others around you.

You’ll have more significant viewing space now, which might make this a significant update.

Instagram’s auto-captions for feed posts will be accessible in 17 languages at first, with more to follow.

Instagram Launches Automated Captions for Feed Videos To Compete with TIKTOK

Instagram vs Tikktok

Today’s news comes as Instagram has modernised its platform and pushed out new features to better compete with TikTok.

The company has been focusing on growing Reels, a short-form TikTok rival, by releasing similar features. Earlier this year, Instagram discovered that customers can now remix any video material on the service, not only short-form Reels videos.

Last March, the firm officially released Remix, its version of TikTok Duets. Late last year, Instagram brought out a new “Reels Visual Replies” tool that enables users to reply to comments on posts with Reels.

The tool is comparable to TikTok’s video replies, which allow users to reply to comments on their content with video responses.

The rollout of auto-generated captions also comes a day after Instagram announced that it is abandoning support for its standalone app for IGTV.

As part of the statement, Instagram said it will now focus on having all videos on its main app and that it will aim to create a more efficient video in the main Instagram app over the coming months.

Instagram also underlined its emphasis on Reels and noted that Reels continue to be the top contributor to engagement increase on the app and that it plans to keep investing in the feature.
