I think you will really agree with me when I say:
Ranking on SERP using SEO is very difficult, if you rank on the first page, you are ready to acquire 33% of the Search Traffic. But it’s not as easy as it sounds.
And, that’s what you are here for, to grab that 33% or maybe more search traffic from the search engine organically.
In fact, this year I have tried and tested these 21 actionable SEO strategies, my traffic boosted by 21% and my conversion rate increased by 7%.
It was the most amazing moment for me!
So, without wasting time, let’s dive right in and look at the Technique.
1. Use Wikipedia For Quality Link Building.
Link building is the most important aspect of SEO.
Many new bloggers think, after publishing the post, it’s time to chill. But that’s not the truth. The real hard work has just begun.
After publishing the post, you need to find opportunities for link building.
Note: One backlink from a high domain authority site is better than having many backlinks from a website having D.A less than 30.
When any Wikipedia writer or editor trips on a dead link, they don’t delete the link ASAP.
Instead of deleting the dead link, they add a footnote beside the link that shows “dead link”.
Now, this is beneficial for SEOs like us. Since Wikipedia says that the link is broken, you have a great chance to get a quality backlink for your post.
Thus, link building becomes a very simple and easy process.
Here’s how you can do it:
Type the below string to find dead links using Google.
site:wikipedia.org [keyword] + “dead link”
Now, visit SERP that’s related to your site:
Using the Ctrl+F command, search for “deadlink”.
You will find the dead link.
That’s not over yet. You need to recreate the dead content and edit the Wikipedia page and embed your link.
The link will be “no-follow”.
It will be worth getting it. Since Wikipedia has huge traffic, you can drive that to your post.
2. Hack Your Competitors Best Keywords.
You can find your competitors' keywords using various methods.
But I will share with you the two most effective methods that many SEO agencies used to boost their rankings.
Let’s look at the first method.
Find the competitors that rank higher than you on Google.
For instance, Search Engine Journal is one of my competitors who are one of the best in SEO.
Now, head over to SEMRush and type in the URL of your competitors' website.
You’ll get a list of keywords that your competitor is already ranking for.
Now you might say that some of the keywords don't make sense or are not related to your niche.
Thus, you should only focus on those keywords that:
- Your target customer searches on search engines.
- And then, either create or recreate awesome content that is sharable using those keywords.
That’s what my next SEO strategy is all about that shows you exactly how to do so.
3. Optimize Your Content to Maximize “Shareability”.
Do you think creating a sharable content is simple?
Is there any formula to create shareable content?
The answer is no!
If there had been a formula to create shareable content, then almost everyone would have created it.
But these are some of the best practices to make your content go viral:
Use Numbers In Headlines.
Headlines with numbers are 36% more likely to generate clicks, according to research by Conductor.
And a study of 150,000 headlines revealed that odd-numbered headlines have a 20% better CTR than headlines with even numbers.
Use Short URLs.
Marketing Sherpa found that short URLs are 2.5x more likely to attract a click.
The Microsoft study found trusted domains get 25% more clicks. Use example.com/awesome-post x instead of example.com/blog/post?id=54.
Use a Colorful Image Above the Fold.
Xerox found that colorful visuals made people 80% more likely to read a product guide.
Put Social Share Buttons Above the Fold.
A Google study found that elements above the fold are seen by 63% more people than those further down the page.
Write Short Sentences.
People only read 28% of a blog post, so you need to hook them fast. How? Short sentences. Dr. John Morkes found short sentences boosted content readability by 58%.
Add More Images In Your Content.
A Claremont Graduate University study found an image – any image – boosts content credibility by 75%.
Make Text Easy to Scan Like short paragraphs, subheadings, and bulleted lists.
Dr. Jakob Nielson discovered that “scannable” online content boosted readability by 57%.
Deliver Practical Ideas And Strategies.
Dr. Jonah Berger found that highly practical articles are 34% more likely to go viral.
Use Professional Images.
Image quality makes a huge difference. An internal Marketing Sherpa study found that pro images received 45% more Facebook shares than “semi-professional” photos.
Use Brackets In Your Headlines.
In an analysis of over 3 million headlines, Outbrain found using [brackets] in a headline bumped up CTR by 38%.
4. Use Google Adword Ads To Write Insane Title And Meta Description.
The compelling title tags and meta descriptions get more CTR. According to Google’s ranking algorithm, the websites that get more CTR get higher rankings.
But it’s not easy to get people to click on your post.
But Google AdWords makes it super easy!
The title and the meta description that you see in paid ads are made after doing thousands of split tests.
Splits tests are done to increase the chances of CTR.
And you can copy the profitable keywords from these ads to turn your title and description tags into click magnets.
For example, if you are searching for the keyword “best cooking courses”.
You will find Google Ads on the top of SERP.
Take a look at their titles and meta description. The main keywords are bolded.
Use these keywords in your title tags and meta descriptions and you'll see the drastic change in your CTR and traffic.
These tags include words that are proven to generate clicks.
5. Check Out Wikipedia for Keywords and Topic Ideas.
Almost 86% of the bloggers do their keyword research and find the most common keywords.
But how do you find untapped keywords that you can use in your content to rank higher?
Since your competitors are unaware of it, you can use the Wikipedia Keyword Research SEO strategy instead.
Do you know why I don’t recommend Google Keyword Planner for keyword research?
That’s because the Keyword Planner is made to suggest keywords that are similar to your seed keywords.
Yes! Give it a try.
So, if you want to rank higher and clear off the competition, try this method.
Head over to Wikipedia and search for your keyword.
Scroll down until you see the table of the content section of Wikipedia that is a goldmine of keywords.
You will find only a handful of keywords when you search for your seed keyword.
And if you want some more keywords to add to your content, then click on the internal links and visit the page and simply follow the same procedure.
That's how you get access to hundreds of keywords.
So search, note down, and repeat.
6. Use The “Best of” Lists to Find Awesome Backlinks.
Many SEOs use this method to get quality backlinks.
Getting quality backlinks from another website in your niche is getting a treasure.
I create these lists in the form of “best of” blog posts.
“Best of” blog posts the some of the best and popular posts in your niche.
You can also find the “Best of” list using one simple method.
Use these search strings:
- “[keyword] blogs to follow”
- “best [keyword] posts 2021”
- “top [keyword] blogs to follow” + “2021”
Let's find some of the best cooking blogs to follow.
Now if you are in an Indian cooking niche, these are the website you need to reach out to whenever you are in the step of link building.
I also suggest making a better long-term relationship with these site owners.
This will help you get backlinks faster in the long run.
7. Find Specific Link Building Opportunities Using Paid Tool.
As we discussed in the above strategy, we can find the best blogs in our niche for link building.
But, you only get a handful of blogs.
Instead, if you are actively performing in link building, then you must try Flippa.
Flippa is one of the most popular websites on the web to find link-building opportunities from various websites in your niche.
Flippa is used by experts to find Niche-Specific Link Building Opportunities only.
People sell their site on Flippa and give every detail of their website.
Means, also the websites that were linking to their websites.
It's very easy to find those websites.
- Open Flippa.com and click on Websites and click All.
- Enter a niche keyword on the search bar.
- Set the monthly users to at least 1000 per month.
The seller of the site will actually give a list of places where he landed editorial links.
And, they will also tell you how they have reached other websites for link building. You know that they found those backlinks using PR.
Thus, you get to know the websites in your niche, and you will also know how to reach them for link building.
Isn’t it like finding treasure?
8.Optimize Your Content For “Semantic SEO”.
The search engines understand topics and rank your content on the SERP according to its relevancy. This capability of the search engine is called “Semantic Search”.
On September 26, 2013, Google announced a new ranking algorithm called Hummingbird. Its official name was derived from the speed and accuracy of the hummingbird.
Before 2013, Google used to analyze keywords on the page but not the topic.
Luckily, when the hummingbird update got announced, Google started to understand the topic of the post.
Now there are a few steps that you can follow to optimize your content for a semantic search like:
- Optimize your page around your focus keyword.
- Cover subtopics related to your target keyword using subheading tags (H2-H6).
- Use LSI keywords in your content.
And thus, your content will be optimized for Semantic Search and the “Humminbird” algorithm.
9. Link Out The Website With High DA.
Saying about hummingbird, we can't neglect the Google algorithm update called Hilltop.
In February 2003, Google officially announced the Hilltop Algorithm.
It was used to find documents relevant to a particular keyword topic.
The hilltop algorithm is an on-page SEO signal which determines that a page is a “hub” of information.
Hubs are determined by the quality and relevancy of that page’s outbound links.
In simple words, the Hilltop algorithm said that the pages you are linking to reflect the topic of the content of your post.
And, if your page is linking out to some popular and helpful resources, then your webpage is considered the ideal content that has complete information on the topic.
So to sum up this SEO strategy, you should know:
- Outbound links are better for user experience.
- Link to at least 6-7 high-quality and useful resources.
This way your post will be completely optimized for the Hilltop update, and your content will be good to go for higher rankings.
10. Find Untapped Keywords Using Reddit.
Do you know that, like Wikipedia, Reddit is also one of the best sources of finding untapped keywords?
Because if people are curious about these topics on Reddit, it means they’re searching for those keywords in Google.
Thus, making Reddit for finding amazing keywords.
But can you find those untapped keywords?
Here’s how you can do it the easy way.
- Head over to Reddit.com.
- Then search for the subreddit in your niche.
- Now, scan threads for terms that appear frequently.
Following this SEO Strategy will help you find the keywords that your competitors are not aware of.
You can cover them in your content in detail, so that you will be the first to rank higher for those keyword.
With that said, let’s move onto my next advanced SEO strategies.
11. Improve Your Old Blog Posts And Keep Your Content Fresh.
On a sunny day, I got an idea in my mind.
And I was planning my day for writing an awesome post on the “keyword research checklist”.
Suddenly, I realized that I had an amazing “keyword research guide” which was ranked in the 11th position, which means on the top of the second page.
I thought about what would happen if I added my “keyword research checklist” to the “Keyword Research Guide”.
And I did it!
I updated my content with the images and added some new hacks to the guide with my checklist.
After that, I promoted my content and did some link building to scale up the ranking.
You won't believe the results, they were insane, it made my day.
The same post ranked in the seventh position on the 10th day and soon after one month, it ranked in the third position.
Which is pretty good for the competitive keyword.
The traffic on the post increased by 37.69%.
And that’s what you need to do. Upgrade and Republish Old Blog Posts.
That was pretty cool!
12. Use “Because” In Your Email.
What happens when you see an email pop in your inbox?
I am sure two questions arise in your mind:
- “Who is this person?”
- “What do they want?”
And if you want to increase your response rate you need to answer the questions in your outreach emails ASAP.
You can do it easily by using the word “because”.
“Dr. Ellen Langer” did an experiment at Harvard University.
They wanted to test what is that single word that convinces the people to agree upon your thought or request.
And the word was “Because”.
This happened because the word “because” makes your request seem more legitimate.
That was pretty easy, but awesome tip, right?
So use the word “because” early in your email.
13. Use Long Tail Keywords In Title Tags.
As I said to you before, I wrote a complete guide on keyword research and titled it as “Keyword Research Guide.”
But one day, an idea tricked into my mind.
My content had many long-tail keywords, but I thought what if I embed Embed Long Tail Keywords In Title Tag.
So, instead of “Keyword Research Guide”, I kept my headline as “Keyword Research Guide For SEO”.
And my post landed up on the first page of the SERP.
I just had to use a long-tail keyword in my title tag and eventually it got much attention. Because I wouldn’t have got visitors until I hit the first page for that term.
To sum up this SEO Technique:
- Find long-tail keywords.
- And then embed it into your titles.
Eventually, the post will rank on the first page and you will start getting more traffic.
Great, let’s move on to our next SEO Technique, which will guide you how you can get specific, targeted traffic using GSC.
14. Google Search Console Can Help You Reach Your Targeted Audience.
The two tools that help every blogger in their journey are Google Search Console and Google Analytics.
So, in this SEO Technique, let’s see how to use the Google Search Console to get more traffic.
- Log in and click on “Search results”.
- Now, look for the keywords that you are already ranking for.
- Then, filter out the keywords that have the most impressions.
Now, note down those keywords that bring most of the traffic.
Then, either improve or write a new article that is focused on the keyword with more impressions.
While improving your content, focus on adding more value to your readers.
If you are writing a new post, then, focus on:
- Do effective Keyword Research.
- Add more valuable content.
- Include videos in your content.
- Try different ways of increasing CTR.
- Do the link building.
This way you will not only rank higher but also increase your traffic.
15. Does the First Link On Your Page Get Higher Priority?
This step is an advanced SEO step but easy to implement.
Before you read further, I have a question for you.
Imagine if two links were pointing to a page on your site, and both of those links were on the same page.
Which one gets the most priority?
Now, according to the Googlebot (crawler) and ranking algorithm, the first link gets the most priority.
Let's understand it will an example.
You have a header navigation menu like this:
Search Engines will see the navigation menu links first because it is at the top of the page.
Now that you have a link to your “Fitness Index” page in a blog post, and that link has the anchor text: “physical fitness”.
Do you know? Crawlers will ignore the “physical fitness” anchor text.
The crawlers give preference to those anchor texts that are present first. (“Fitness Index”).
What's the solution?
Always use keyword-rich anchors in your site’s navigation and remember the keyword-rich internal links below them don’t get preference.
16. Find Secret Keywords Using “SeedKeywords”.
I am sure you will agree with this:
If you use doing keyword research that has the same seed keywords as your competition, then you will also get the same keywords as them.
So what’s the solution? How can you find some different keywords than your competitors?
“SeedKeywords.com” can help you find those untapped keywords.
So to find the untapped keyword, follow:
- Head over to Seed Keywords.
- Type the question/scenario you want to pose in the box below with your seed keyword.
- And finally, click on “create a scenario”.
- Then you’ll get a special link.
- Now, click the URL and bookmark your scenario page.
- Share the given URL with your contacts.
When people respond to it, you will get your result.
Now, you will have an amazing keyword list that you can use.
Believe it or not, you will get amazing results.
17. Convert Your Blog Post Into Mini Posts for YouTube Descriptions.
As a blogger, you know that YouTube video results are shown up frequently on Google’s first page.
Since video content is currently trending now, this SEO technique will last for many years.
So here’s how you can rank higher on Google.
Write 200+ word video descriptions of your post.
Try to include your focus keywords and LSI keywords in the description. So that you cover every part of your post.
Most of the YouTubers don’t know that YouTube cannot see or hear your video content.
YouTube SEO is only relied upon:
- The title tag of the video.
- Captions of your video
- Metadata of your video.
Hence, try to optimize these three aspects around your focus keyword.
18. Lift Your Ranking Using Link Juices.
Are you stuck on the 2 or 3 of Google’s SERP?
Here’s what you are missing out on.
According to Ahrefs, less than 1% of Google searchers end up on the 2nd page.
Can you reach the first page of Google?
Yes! In a few weeks.
- Find your high authority pages.
- Use GSC to find out for the post which ranks on the 2nd page or beyond.
- Links those authority pages to post that you want to hit the 1st page.
- Also, do the same thing vice-versa. Go to those pages and link to your high authority pages.
This way, Googlebot (Google’s crawler) will understand that your post has quality content since the high authority page is linking to your post.
Google’s Algorithm will eventually lift up your post’s ranking step-by-step.
In simple words, send Link Juice to those pages that are stuck on the 11-30th position.
You will see changes in your rankings. Surely give it a try.
19. Is Your Website Optimized For Google's RankBrain Algorithm?
On 26 October 2015, Google introduced the most successful algorithm called “RankBrain”.
RankBrain is the latest and the first algorithm that uses the first machine learning algorithm.
Why do I call RankBrain the most successful?
Because it measures various aspects of your post like C-T-R, Bounce Rate, and more!
After, the quality content and backlinks, the RankBrain is the third most important ranking factor that Google looks upon.
And Google has confirmed it!
Is your website optimized for Google RankBrain?
I will give you two tips to optimize your website for RankBrain.
- Improve your organic click-through rate (CTR).
- Improve your bounce rate.
- Also, focus on improving Core Web Vitals like Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), and First Input Delay (FID).
So, make sure you write quality content and optimize your website according to the above three points to ensure your content is ready for RankBrain.
20. Publish Post With Minimum Of 1,800 Words.
A long time ago, Google would rank the posts with 300 words.
But it's not the case now.
It’s a fact that it’s impossible to rank on the first page without having long and detailed content.
So what's the ideal word count you should prefer?
It was found out that the average word count of a first page in Google results was 1,447 words.
There’s a reason behind ranking the page with a higher word count.
Because the longer posts show the search engines that you’re providing in-depth content for your audience.
A study was done by Jonah Berger and Katherine L. Milkman to study how long content works.
They found that the longer content tends to get 30% more social share than shorter content.
You can also ask if longer content is mobile-friendly.
Yes! It is.
The longer in-depth content does perform awesome for mobile searches.
So, try to write your post with more than 1,447 words.
But, according to me, it should be more than 2500 words. It’s not compulsory, but you should try for it.
Moving onto our last but not the least SEO technique to rank higher.
21. Think Of Your Own Keywords.
I am going to reveal an amazing secret in the last step!
If you create your own keyword, you will rank at the top of SERP.
It happens because you create a keyword that has originality. The unique will take time to rank, but it will hit the #1 position.
And since you have created that keyword, you are the only one to optimize it and get links to it from other websites.
It's very simple to create your own keywords.
Develop your own strategy, idea, or tips that no one other has created. Then optimize your content around that keyword.
And when the keyword becomes popular, you will find the keyword ranking #1 for a high-volume keyword.
I have tried it many times. (Sorry I can't reveal the keyword).
Try this trick. Create your own keyword whenever you write your post next time.
In this post you have seen many SEO Strategies and Techniques, some of them are advanced SEO techniques and some are basic but worth implementing.
Just make sure to write longer content.
But now it's your time.
And finally, after learning such effective SEO Strategies, let me know in the comment section which SEO Techniques you will try first.
I am curious to know!
